Behaviour Interactive leave remove The Cannibal's unlockable faces in the next Nonviable by Daylight mid-chapter update, following complaints that they'Re being used to incite racist harassment against players.

The Cannibal was added to Dead by Daylight in the Leatherface DLC discharged in 2017. He has the power to unlock the faces of Dead by Daylight's four original survivors by sacrificing them 25 multiplication, and can then wear those faces as a grisly enhancive. One of those survivors, Claudette Morel, is a Black adult female, leading some players and viewing audience to complain that the game was enabling a form of blackface.

The cosmetic has also been used in racist abuse of Total darkness players in livestreams. ("Tunnelling," an activity described in the video recording below, is the act of ignoring everything else in the game (including another players) in plac to focus on indefinite survivor in fussy, even when it's strategically harmful.)

Complaints nearly the dissemble aren't new—this Reddit thread interrogatory if the mask should be remote, for instance, is nearly a inundated year honest-to-goodness—and Behaviour Interactive has finally decided to address the issue aside removing each of the unlockable masks from the game.

"Members of the community have shared their experiences with people targeting and harassing them while victimisation just about of these masks," the studio said in a developer update. "These reports were disheartening to hear, and we utterly condemn this behaviour. We are not comfortable having these masks in the game when they are used as a tool to spread hate. To that final stage, we will cost removing The Cannibal's unlockable faces in this forthcoming Mid-Chapter."

Any Nonresonant by Daytime player who has used The Anthropophagite prior to the rollout of the update testament be given 6,000 Colourful Shards, an in-game up-to-dateness wont to purchase Teachable Perks from the Shrine of Secrets, in compensation.

Predictably the announcement has sparked some repercussion, including a fistful of negative substance abuser reviews on Steam and negative comments on Reddit and Chitter. But there's also support for the decision from content creators and Behaviour Synergistic employees, including senior theatrical role artist Eric Bourdages, the creator of the masks, World Health Organization said on Chirrup that he's "glad they are being removed."
